The Concept

An atypical concert in which Marina Chiche puts her virtuoso energy and her pedagogical enthusiasm at the service of the interpretation of a selection of masterpieces for solo violin from Bach to the present day … accompanied by spoken interventions where she shares keys listening to the functioning of the violin and its repertoire throughout history.

Marina likes to develop this program and adapt it “tailor-made” according to the place and surrounding themes. Looking forward to chat with you !

Marina intent note

I built the “VIOLIN +” program during an improvised moment in the halls of Sciences Po Paris. It was in 2009, when I was giving a seminar called “Introduction to Musical Discourse”, a course in which I gave students listening keys and elements of music history. During the Open House organized by the artistic association, I was invited to perform and I found myself one morning, alone with my violin, playing freely in passing places of the school.

After a while, some students and teachers sat in a semi-circle around me and a dialogue ensued. I started to explain things about the violin and about the solo violin repertoire. One thing led to another, a speech appeared, a program with a logical continuation.

VIOLIN + was born! Something that I only realized afterwards …

VIOLIN +, so it is this journey through the repertoire for solo violin: from Bach to the present day, including Paganini, Ysaye.

J.S. Bach the essential

J.S. Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas are fundamental in the violin repertoire.
They are an invitation to rise – as an instrumentalist, as a musician, reader of a musical text in the face of historical notation, as a listener also with active listening, as a human being in quest for transcendence …

Violin + is a program that I really like to develop and adapt “tailor-made” according to the place and surrounding themes.
Sometimes I focus only on JS Bach, often I go through “Bach-Paganini-Ysaye”. And I like to go until today “Bach-Paganini-Boulez” or “Bach-Bartok-Kurtag”, soon “Bach-Paganini-Ysaye-Kreisler-Lindberg”.

In addition to playing, I guide the listeners through the musical journey that I have developed to make “hear” things that the public probably already perceives – without necessarily being aware of it – or which, because they are put in a certain order. , prove !

I particularly like this form of concert because it gives a real feeling of exchange with the public: a moment of shared experience!
